We welcomed the month of July with a Hawaiian Luau for the fourth. What a great time with family and friends! The morning started off with 2 inches of rain that the beans desperately needed and by afternoon the sun was out and the back yard was transformed into a tropical paradise. Roger and Daniel grilled around 60 hamburgers and 80 hot dogs! We had freezers of home made ice cream and watermelon. As our guest arrived there stood Stacy in her grass skirt to lei them! Amber had the kids busy doing their turtle race, then going back and forth from the pool to the water park. Some of the adults busted moves doing the hula hoop contest. It was so enjoyable to sit around the pool and simply enjoy each others company. The night ended with an awesome firework show compliments of Charles & Charlie Coblentz.
Temperatures are in the hundreds again, with long days in the hay field. My chickens are really stressed from all the heat. I have lost two and the others have slowed down on laying. My tomato plants, well lets just say don't fall for the gimmick of the topsy turvy! What a joke! The plants have very few green tomatoes and if they do have any tomatoes the bottoms of them are rotten. Old enough to know better!!
The guys have got the prairie hay put up in the barn, the quality is really good but it sure didn't make much, about half of what it usually makes.
Daniel, Nichole and Ryan rented a RV and headed for the mountains of Colorado for a week of vacation. They will just be getting back and Roger and I will be heading to Taylor Park, Colorado to go camping, not in a RV but in a tent! We load up the tent and all the camping equipment, we can't forget to take our toy the Polaris Ranger RZR so we can ride the trails and passes. We made it to our campsite, got the tent up and the blow up bed and I think to myself this is it for the next few days, I can do this! We were eating supper by the campfire and up walks this mule deer looking for food. I threw her a couple pieces of bread and she ate it right up. She was there to eat every meal with us! I think she went from campsite to campsite beggin for food! That first night in the tent with the temps in the thirties was the longest, sleepless night I have had in years!! It was so cold and we were camping at an elevation of 11,000 ft so you have to get acclimated to the lack of air. After two nights of this it was time to take that tent down and move down the mountain to civilization in Silverton where they have hot water! We rode the trails during the day and had a nice one room cabin to stay in at night. We had a so much fun and didn't want to come home. What a great way to end July!.
