Roger and I always look forward to October so we can attend the Ozark Farm Fest in Springfield, Missouri. As usual it was fantastic, the weather was great! And believe it or not we left without buying anything.
October was another birthday month! Our nephew Kody turned seven on the 5th, our son-in-law Brent turned twenty-five on the 6th, and our grandson Dillon turned six on the 7th! The trees on the hill are just bursting with fall colors. We have been getting quite a bit of rain and the temperatures have been chilly, so there has been no activity in the fields. The beans should be ready for harvest the end of the month or the first of November.
Saturday the 17th we are having a baby shower here at the farm for our daughter-in-law Nichole. We were supposed to have it in her new studio but the painters hadn't finished yet. It is going to be so nice when it is finished. The grandkids have been busy picking out their Halloween costumes. Dillon is a Power Ranger, Philip is Buzz Light-year, Audra is Dora, Ryan is Superman and Makayla is going to be Minnie Mouse.
I got a phone call early this morning from Nichole letting us know her water had broke and they are on their way to the hospital. I thought WHAT!! The baby is not due until November 12th! But our new grandson arrived at 2:39pm on October 30th. Jake Allen Moore weighed 6lbs.6oz. and was 19 inches long. He has lots of dark hair and is already the apple of his grandmas eyes.
The cabin has been at a stand still this month. Come to find out the contractors are dissolving their company! After doing some research it seems they are having legal issues with some of the other customers they have built log homes for. We finally made the decision to fire them and contract the work ourselves. It has been such a nightmare that the thrill of having a log home has been clouded with disgust!! Our friend Jerry Stimson has put us in contact with Robert Reed who does amazing work with wood and he feels he can finish it for us with no problem. What a relief! He should be able to start sometime in November. The cabin might be on stand still but by golly I am getting my loblolly pine trees planted! Connie from Sanders Nursery has done a wonderful job planting the pine trees. They look so good in the front yard. October is a good month for planting loblollies. We plan on planting allot more trees in the Spring. I would have liked to have gotten them all planted this fall but the yard just isn't ready yet. If anyone is looking for quality trees and plants, along with great service, I recommend you visit with Connie at Sanders Nursery in Inola.
