May is here and we are getting all geared up for Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday the 8th. Went to Sam's to get all the supplies and found the prettiest wishing well flower pots already filled with flowers. Thought that would make great Mothers Day gifts so I bought one for our mothers and one for each of our daughters after all they have blessed us with wonderful grandbabies!! On Friday, Brent went to Mid-America Rental to get the chairs and the popcorn machine. Tri-State Agri-Services is helping to sponsor the event. They will be doing the grilling of the hamburgers and hot dogs. I think we started the popcorn way too early since none of us could stay out of it so who was hungry for real food The office reeked of popcorn for days! We had a good turn out and was totally exhausted when 2:00 rolled around.
Had a great Mothers Day! As soon as we got out of church Roger and I headed to Springdale, Arkansas to eat lunch at the AQ Chicken House...they have got the best chicken!! I always get the sampler plate so I can taste all the different ways they prepare it, pan fried, over the coals, and bar-be-cue! After lunch we drove to Stillwell to get some strawberries. They had the strawberry festival going on that weekend. Bought a flat of them to bring home to put in the freezer. Made it back to Chouteau around 7:00 to meet the kids at Del-Rio for supper. Got the berries all worked and made a sponge cake to go with them. They are the sweetest strawberries this year, I wish I would have bought more.
Tuesday, May 11th was move into the cabin day!! YEAH!! Long last after a year of construction the dream finally became a reality. It is worth the wait...absolutely love it!! It is so much fun putting things into their place and making it our home. I can't put any rugs down on the wood floors for two more weeks but that's ok there is plenty of other stuff that needs done. The only problem I see is I don't want to have to get up and leave every morning to go down to the feed store!! It's like we are on vacation, but it's our home now Stacy is redoing the kitchen cabinets in the farm house and getting all their things settled into place. I am so glad she is changing things and making it their own. We are going to have to give them lessons on opening and taking care of the pool!! We told them that is their baby now!
Our grandson Dillon called me and asked if I would like to go with him and his kindergarten class to the Zoo for their end of school year activity!! I was so proud he asked me to go. We had such a fun time! This grandma was wore out though by the end of the day!! It's like those little fellows know one gear and that is full throttle. We no more stopped to look at something and it was time to move onto the next thing...so much fun I wouldn't have missed it. We went to the gift shop before we left and I told Dillon he could get himself something and also pick out something to take home for Philip and Audra. So he picks out things and we get up to the line to the register and one of his classmates is with their parents in the line behind us and the little boy says "Wow Mama look at what all Dillon is getting!" His mama looks at him and says "Well, you just need to bring your grandma with you next time!!" It was all I could do to keep from laughing....but I thought to myself I just want to be the kind of grandma to my grandbabies that I was blessed with growing up. Not just a grandma that buys them things but a grandma that spends time with them and lets them know how much they're loved.
Thought I would never see the day when we would sell totally out of hay and be without for a couple of weeks until the meadows were ready to be cut. Roger was able to get some of the 1st cutting of bermuda put in the barn along with some prairie hay. It seems all the fields are needing attention at once. He has been busy fertilizing and having the fields sprayed to get them prepared for the planting of soybeans. The corn field looks great....you drive by it and you just might think you are in Iowa! The milo is up and looking good. Brent put the bulls out with the cows. We still need to find two more bulls. Roger traded one of our angus bulls for a 1/2 longhorn, 1/2 angus bull to a guy in Iola, Kansas to put on our heifers. When we got there and I saw this bull the first thing that came into my mind was don't wave a red flag in front of him, not to mention questioning my husbands thought process behind this trade!! I can't forget to mention that the bulls name is Toro. He has been this family's pet since he was born so he is very gentle. I told him I would be happy to find the next two bulls we need!! But I have to say Toro has settled in nicely
On Friday the 28th, Stacy and I went to the cemetery to decorate graves for Memorial Weekend. It always looks so pretty with all the flowers that folks bring out to honor their loved ones. On Saturday us girls decided we needed to go to Branson for the weekend...so Stacy, Makayla, my sister Lorrie and her two kids, Kody and Kylie and I load up in the Tahoe and we're off, no reservations for a room but with tickets for The Presley's waiting on us. As soon as we got there we did find a room at the Angel Inn....right behind Wal-Mart....our kind of place!! We always wanted to try Landry's which is a restaurant and walked in sat down, looked at the menu, and thought we are way out of our league. Not a kid friendly place, so we left and went to a buffet. We went to the music show and as usual it was fantastic. Got out of the show at ten and made it back to our rooms to rest so we would be ready for our big day at Silver Dollar City. We got there when they opened at 9:30 and had a blast. When we were leaving the park I had to stop by the vendor that sell Dulcimers. And what did I do???? I bought one to bring home so maybe I could learn how to play it. A little history here: I had bought a dulcimer several years ago and I kid you not, Roger and the kids (they all three were still living at home) would not let me practice in the house....they would tell me to go practice in the barn!! So I finally gave up on it and sold it. Well I decided it's time to give it another try. So we get everybody loaded up along with my dulcimer (I am so proud) and head home. We got in around 7:00 and got unpacked and had my dulcimer laying on the coffee table. Roger walks in and sees it laying there and he says "Ohhhhh, are you gonna try that again!!!!" I said "Yes I am"!! and left it at that. I can play two songs on it, Row Row Row Your Boat, and Mary Had a Little Lamb! He wasn't exactly in the best of moods when I got home because I had mowed the lawn on Saturday morning before we left for Branson, and he says I did it even though I don't know how, threw a rock and broke the kitchen window on the cabin!! After an all out butt chewing I have been relieved of my lawn mowing duty, now keep in mind this has been my job for the last thirty-two years! So I am very anxious to see how long this will last!! So it probably wasn't the best time to spring on him the dulcimer, but on the other hand it probably would never be the right time..oh well
