March is here and hopefully the sunshine and warm temperatures will come with it. The heifers, (including Roger & I) are going to need some nice weather to get thru this calving month. On the 2nd we had our first Corey calves, two really nice heifers. So far we have gotten 9 bulls and 10 heifers with five more to calve. So pleased with the quality!
Our great-niece Isabella celebrated her first birthday on the 13th. Wow that makes me feel old to have a great-niece!!
I have been trying to get everything ready for our grandkids to come stay with us for five days. For Christmas we got the kids a ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado along with me and Roger keeping all the little ones! I know what were we thinking  I told myself that the kiddos would have healthy snacks and only one fruit snack a day......that rule lasted one day! Pretty much whatever they wanted within reason is how it would be until Sunday!! Ohh the things they would come up with to talk about.......one night Roger grilled hot dogs and we were sitting at the table and Dillon our oldest grandson who is six, looked at his Papa and asked in a very serious voice "Papa do these wieners come from a pigs private part?" I thought I was going to die laughing so hard inside as we all awaited Papa's response......Roger just looked at him and said "Naah" and that was the end of that!! Bath times were fun, at one point I had four of them in at the same time. We had such a good time with them! The kids would call and check in but on Friday Stacy called and I could tell by her voice that something was wrong....Brent had dislocated his shoulder. He was snowboarding down the slope and when he went to make a curve he didn't have his weight shifted right and so he hit the hard snow shoulder first. They wrapped his arm and shoulder and told him to see his Doctor on Monday. I asked if they wanted me to get them an earlier flight and they all said NO there's plenty to do in Breckenridge besides skiing!!
They made it home Sunday evening and we had a nice supper together and heard all the fun stories.
Monday was spent putting the house back in order and packing for Roger to leave for Tucson on Tuesday. I was sure hoping to make the trip but we decided I was needed more here than there. I just don't do good when my hubby is away  So he left for the airport around 11:00 and I called Joan and had her go with me to Tulsa to help me pick out the granite for the cabin. I knew she would give me here honest opinion, that's what I love most about you my friend!!
And of course a couple of the heifers decided to give us problems calving so I had the vet out to assist, let's just say make sure you request a vet that knows something and he is not from New York!!! We had to pull a 95lb bull calf, and all I could think was if Roger was here this would not be happening! But I have to say the heifer was one of the past show heifers so she was pretty plump. All ended well and they are both doing fine.
Roger made it home on Friday before the snow storm hit on Saturday!!! Gotta love this Oklahoma weather.
The painters have been down at the cabin working on getting the inside stained, and Marshall is laying the Colorado river rock on the fireplace. Daisy has an appointment with the vet on the 25th to get spayed and hopefully she will calm down a little bit!
Roger is anxiously awaiting the ground to dry up a little so he can get the corn planted. He was able to work on the yard behind the cabin. We are so close to moving in but yet it seems so far. We will be at a stand still until the granite arrives which they are saying is around the 21st of April...ugh...then all the last details, etc..
