The month of June is here...wow that means this year is almost half over! Roger will be having his 50th birthday on Monday, June 7th. I decided I wanted to do something special for him so our daughter Amber and I planned a surprise 50th birthday party. We had invitations made that had a picture of Roger when he was a boy on the cover that read "Guess who's turning 50?" and then you open it up and it reads Roger Preston Moore. So sweet! We planned the party for the Saturday before and invited folks that he grew up with and all our dear friends and family who mean so much to us, so ended up inviting around 100 people. The RSVP's started coming in to Amber by the 2nd so I could get the final count to Rib Crib who catered the dinner. Well come about Wednesday I started laying the ground work for getting him over to the fish farm for his party....I told him we really need a night out...he looked at me and said "Well how about we go Saturday night for my surprise party!!" I said "What are talking about?" He said "You know my party at the fish farm!" I was stunned and asked him how in the world did he know. Then he preceded to tell me he had went into Stacy's (daughter) house and saw the invitation laying on the chip box! I can never surprise that man with anything!! He might know about the party but he had no idea that 184 people were waiting on him to walk thru the door. The look on his face was priceless. It was a wonderful evening, the fellowship was priceless, not to mention an awesome dinner, and the cake, well what can I say Ludgers outdid themselves! It was the Bavarian Cheesecake with whipped topping and raspberry sauce on the side...yummy!!
Now that the party was over it was time to switch gears to VBS. I was assigned the kindergarten group. My duty was to get them to all the scheduled activities on time! What a hoot...our grandson Dillon got to go with me everyday and was in my group...his brother Philip got to attend the last two days. This grandma was wore out come the end of the week!
Roger had to replant around 70 acres of soybeans...the grasshoppers decided to take over. We had Charlie our son-in-law come out to take a look at the soybeans and see what kind of chemical we needed to use to get rid of them. The rest of the crops seem to be doing good. The periodic rain showers we have had always seem to come at the right minute. The hay meadows and the pastures are staying green not to mention our lawn that seems like it needs mowed every time I turn around, which by the way I have resumed the lawn mowing duty. Making two or three rounds around the yard in an evening doesn't quite get the yard done....was driving me crazy...so I promised not to lower the mower deck and be extremely careful and was able to get it done!!
For Fathers Day all of us went to our daughter Ambers for dinner. She made a special meal for her Dad and our daughter-in-law Nichole made an awesome dessert. The kids all went together and got Roger a Bass Pro gift card. We got to Ambers and all the grandkids were playing in the water park and the minute we got out of the truck they went to shouting hey gamma, hey papa watch me!! Absolutely melts your heart to see these excited little faces all wanting your attention.
Our anniversary is the 24th so as always it's time to combine wheat. We only had about 75 acres this year so they should get it harvested pretty quick if the combine will hold together. Roger says we will make more money off the straw than the grain. This makes four years in a row that the wheat hasn't done good....you would think he would get the hint  Ohh well it'll be better next year is always the comeback comment!
We celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary by going to Broken Arrow and eating at Charleston's. I had never been there and the food was fantastic. After dinner we went to Bass Pro to spend Roger's gift card that he had gotten for fathers day. I got a present out of the deal also...a brand new Zebco fishing pole!! Now we can spend some evenings down at the pond catching some of the channel catfish that we had stocked last year.
I have been busy canning green beans out of the garden. Our neighbor Jerry Stimson brought me some plums so I made plum jelly. I went over to Newton's which is one of our rented farm ground and picked blackberries out of the fence row. Got about 2 gallon so I made Roger a cobbler and made jelly out of the rest. The grape tomatoes are starting to ripen in the garden and have been getting a lot of squash. Our corn is starting to tassel. Nothing like fresh vegetables out of the garden
On Sunday the 27th went over to my sister Judy's to celebrate her 47th birthday. Had a great time visiting with everybody.
