Where did May go? Here we are in the middle of June! The soybeans are in the ground and all the crops were ready for the inch and a half of rain we got. What a thunderstorm! We had sixty mile an hour straight winds from the west. Roger was worried that the wind layed the wheat over, but he went to check the fields and they were still standing. The guys have been busy getting the combines ready. They hope to start combining next week. Some of our neighbors have started and their wheat is only yielding 6 to 8 bushels an acre. The stalks look great but not much grain. Roger said the reason for it is because when the plants started to pollinate it was raining for 23 days straight so the pollen went to the ground. Some of the farmers north have went ahead and filed claims with their crop insurance and are plowing it under. It's just not worth the fuel and wear & tear on the combines to harvest it.
We've started in the hay fields. Our first cutting of bermuda looks great.  No weeds, no foxtails!  Maybe all the fertilizer and spray will pay off! Brent has started on the hay deliveries to our loyal customers that have been with us for years.  We got our final numbers on our wheat and we did a little better than what we thought.  We averaged 15 bushel to the acre, not great but better than nothing!  This month has sure been hot.  We've had a week where the temperatures were in the hundreds.  Makes me wonder what July and August will be like.  The feed store has been busy keeping up with all the show kids and all their different feeds.  This year it has been hard to predict what everyone wants to feed, they seem to be all over the board, except for our beef kids and it's Acco Showmaster all the way.  It's such an exciting time for these 4-H and FFA kids who are working so hard with their projects, hoping to win the ultimate prize, a place in the premium auction.
