April has arrived and so has the pollen! But after the winter we had I don't want to complain. Roger got the corn planted on Good Friday. My dear friend Joan came to church with us Easter Sunday and we had all the family over that evening for supper. Monday morning started with Jade (donkey) trying to foal. I wish I would have known that fescue can affect donkeys the same way it does mares. Jade had a spotted jenny but it was born dead. The baby could not break the bag so therefore it suffocated. I have two more that are due to foal so we have dry lotted them in hopes of saving their babies. Took Daisy to the vet to get her staples out but she had already managed to do that! She is ever bit as hyper as she ever was....I am looking forward to the puppy stage being over!!
Wednesday, the 7th our niece Spencer celebrated her 16th birthday. We had a surprise birthday party for her here and her folks surprised her with a red camaro. She was speechless. Everyone got a turn of taking a spin down the road. I felt like I was in a go cart after being used to my tahoe! The girls have been busy going thru my closets to get rid of some things in a garage sale. They had a great turnout for it. It wasn't scheduled to start until 7:00 but at 6:30 folks were sitting in the road waiting Our Ferrier made it out to trim all the donkeys feet so we got them all wormed at the same time.
On Tuesday the 13th I went to the park to celebrate our grandson Philips 5th birthday. He had all his friends from preschool there for pizza along with cupcakes. Stacy left Wednesday to go to New York City as a sponsor with the Pryor High School Choir. They loaded up on a bus to make the twenty-eight hour journey! I tried to tell her to take some ear plugs so she could get a little rest, but she told me "Oh Mom they have quiet time from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am!" Yeah right!!! I got an email from her that next morning that she had sent at 1:30 am saying they were at a rest stop and nobody had been asleep yet! She said the scenery thru Pennsylvania was beautiful. They arrived in the city ahead of schedule so they went to Time Square. They got to go to a Broadway Show, visit NBC Studio, Rockefeller Center, carriage ride thru Central Park plus lots of shopping!! Had the time of her life and made it back on Sunday so she could work on Monday. Roger and I went to Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri for a weekend getaway. That place is gorgeous. We stayed in a one room cabin that was fully furnished, had a grill on the outside deck. We had been in the cabin maybe ten minutes and someone knocked on the front door saying "It's the cookie lady." I opened the front door and there stood a lady holding a basket full of fresh homemade cookies for all of their guests. Asked if we would like her to turn down the bed.....I was thinking to myself wow I could get used to this!! On Sunday afternoon we took out a paddle boat on Table Rock Lake....so peaceful. The landscaping of flowers and beautiful water falls make it such a tranquil place to get away.....have to go back there someday We visited Roaring River State Park on the way home back to our lives of detail. On Tuesday morning I got a call from our nephew Brandon that he wouldn't be into work...him and his wife Casey were going to have their baby...Russell Wyndham Mote arrived weighing in at 7 lbs. 8 ozs, and was 18 inches long. He is the prettiest baby....too pretty to be a boy!
Had to have the plumber out to fix the kitchen sink that has been clogging up since Christmas. I lost count of the Drano bottles I have used so I finally gave up and called the professionals! Guess I better catch everyone up on the log cabin: The granite has been laid, the backsplash partially finished. The plumbers and electricians are scheduled to be here the end of the month for all the last details. The wood floor is supposed to be finished May 5th so we are getting real close to being finished.
We went to Southside Christian Preschool to watch our grandsons Philip and Ryan in their end of year program. All the students got to choose what they want to be when they grow up and come dressed in that attire. Well Philip chose to be a paleontologists (hunt dinosaurs) and Ryan chose to be a farmer (imagine that)! All the kids looked so cute and did great. We all decided not to take up the front row this time so Ryan did good, no meltdowns! After the program we all went to Chili's for dinner. April is ending on a good note....woke up this morning to find "Donkey" had given birth to a little jenny!! It's the cutest thing ever. I thought mama cows were protective of their calves but Donkey will put you out of the barn. You try to get close and she puts her head down to try to knock you back.....she's being a good mama. We have one more jenny left to foal. Looks like we might get rain today, if not I will need to water my garden. I didn't plant a very big one this year. All I put out was corn, green beans, squash, tomatoes and peppers.....enough to keep me busy
